Save Hard drive space with Selective Syncing
I love Dropbox as a cloud syncing platform. Dropbox stores a copy of stored files on your hard drive and syncs it with all of our devices, it's not a cloud "storage" drive. With almost 50GB stored in my account, I began to get startup disk out of space errors on my MacBookAir while it was syncing. After some research, I discovered Selective Sync in the advanced settings. By by going to Preferences / Advanced / Selective Sync on the dropbox app, I can individually choose which folders I want synced to my hard drive. Folders and files that I would only access from my iPad, do not need to be synced to my laptop.
After unchecking the folders that I don't need instant access to (I can always go to Dropbox website to access everything) it freed up plenty of space on my hard drive and easily resolved the problem. Hope this is helpful!
